Weekly Wrap Up – 170402

Posted in Blog Weekly Wrap Up , April 2nd, 2017
The Weekly Wrap Up is where we review what went on this week at Winnipeg’s best training gym, Shinobi Fitness.

Friendly Competition
Fitness is mostly an individual journey. Sometimes it can be a grind and you have to find that internal motivation to go on. However, this week I wanted to point out the power of friendly competition in terms of reaching higher results.

A few weeks ago I set a personal record with 37 continuous pullups. I haven’t done even been close to that number in years but on a spurt of the moment I wanted to test where I was at.  I was more than thrilled that I got so many. Fast forward to this past week and Chris saw my score posted on the board and he attempted to do a max set as well. He beat me by one with 38. Was I upset? Not at all. I was pleased that he set a personal record as well. I’m sure he wouldn’t have tried that many if he didn’t see my score first.  Plus, that just gives me more motivation to train and try harder.

Also, this week Suavek and I were recording us doing some double unders on video.  I wasn’t planning on doing a max set, just a friendly game to see who could last longer.  If I beat him, I was planning to stop one rep later, but in the middle of it at about 100 reps, I felt good and decided to push on.  My previous best was 204 and when I got to around 150 I still felt really fresh and just kept at it.  I went on and beat my previous score by quite a bit.

That is the power of friendly competition. It provides motivation and allows you to propel you to new levels. That is also why the majority of our classes are group classes. The energy of a group atmosphere provides that extra push. If you want to find out more about how we train, click here to contact us for your free assessment.
