Hike
In the spirit of trying new things, Coach Suavek and I tried to conquer the Hunt Lake Trail. We laced up our new trail shoes and attempted this down and back trail. The suggested time was 6 hours but we completed it well within that time.
Congratulations
Congrats to Coach Rich and Jose in getting engaged. To celebrate, JD brought in some beverages and snacks for everyone.

Marathon
Congrats to Matt and Marydelle for running in the Manitoba Marathon. Matt raced the full marathon and Marydelle was part of the team relay.
Birthday WOD
Thanks to everyone who came out to do my birthday workout on Saturday. It was a nice surprise to see Brad and Grant come out. Coach Rich did a good job designing this one. The workout was hard and fun.
Canada Day WOD
Canada Day falls on Saturday this year. We will have our regular class at 9am on Saturday. The holiday workout will be on Monday July 3 at 10am and the regular classes will be cancelled that day.

Coach Suavek Birthday Workout
For Suavek’s birthday workout last Saturday, he used some of his math skills and turned his numeric date of birth into a sweat inducing workout. Burpees had to be on there!
Goals
The last update we mentioned Floyd was close to reaching one of his goals in terms of losing weight. This week he made weight and he treated himself to a new pair of workout shoes. Congrats Floyd, keep up the good work!

Nomination
We were proud to be nominated in two categories in the Metro Winnipeg Community Choice Awards. Best Personal Trainer and Best Fitness Club. Thanks for the nomination!
JD
JD is heading out to Africa for some volunteer work. We will see her brand new tan when she gets back in a month!
Goals
Goals are important to keep us on track. The things we do are hard and intermediate rewards can be motivating. Floyd is on track for his intermediate goal and once he hits it, he is going to award himself with a brand new pair of workout shoes. Good luck Floyd!

Friendly Competition
Fitness is mostly an individual journey. Sometimes it can be a grind and you have to find that internal motivation to go on. However, this week I wanted to point out the power of friendly competition in terms of reaching higher results.
A few weeks ago I set a personal record with 37 continuous pullups. I haven’t done even been close to that number in years but on a spurt of the moment I wanted to test where I was at. I was more than thrilled that I got so many. Fast forward to this past week and Chris saw my score posted on the board and he attempted to do a max set as well. He beat me by one with 38. Was I upset? Not at all. I was pleased that he set a personal record as well. I’m sure he wouldn’t have tried that many if he didn’t see my score first. Plus, that just gives me more motivation to train and try harder.
Also, this week Suavek and I were recording us doing some double unders on video. I wasn’t planning on doing a max set, just a friendly game to see who could last longer. If I beat him, I was planning to stop one rep later, but in the middle of it at about 100 reps, I felt good and decided to push on. My previous best was 204 and when I got to around 150 I still felt really fresh and just kept at it. I went on and beat my previous score by quite a bit.
That is the power of friendly competition. It provides motivation and allows you to propel you to new levels. That is also why the majority of our classes are group classes. Super Saturday
We had a strong showing on Saturday and members got to choose between the regular workout or to do the competition workout. We had a special interview streamed live with the 17.5 competitors. That’s it for the Opens this year.
